Software Development Apprentice

An exciting position has become available for a full-time Software Development Apprentice based in West Sussex. The successful candidate will work 40 hours per week Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 17:00 and earn GBP12,500.00 with possible company bonus scheme.

The aim of the apprenticeship is to offer a full-time position, upon successful completion, within our software development team. The successful candidate will take on early client responsibility for existing and new product development: a chance to really make a difference and contribute from day one.

Role Requirements

4 GCSEs at grade C/4 or higher including maths and English (or equivalent).
Useful (though not required) if any of the other GCSE’s are IT or business related.

Some basic programming experience, in any language (ie hobby project or school/college assignment).
General understanding of the software development stack (front-end, back-end, etc.)
General understanding of networking & how the internet operates.
Familiar with Microsoft Office applications.
Some basic experience with Linux would be nice to have, but not necessary.
Familiar with popular operating systems, such as Windows 10 / MacOS.
A keen interest in technology.
Problem solving and decision making – think logically & creatively.
Desire to learn new skills & experiences.
Ability to work independently and part of a team.
Good verbal communication & time management skills.
Ability to work under pressure when required.

Role Responsibilities

Train & work alongside the team to develop high-quality business orientated software solutions. Including:

Complete web-based solutions
Mobile applications
Server applications
PC applications
Web design
Firmware
Set-up and configure cloud-based hosted solutions
Develop problem-solving skills that help you to break big challenges down into achievable stages.
Learn project management skills to ensure developments stay on time & within budget.
Learn to develop project proposal documents, based on client supplied specifications.
Train to handle technical communications with specific clients via both email & phone.
Code peer review, testing, optimisation, and bug-fixing.

Although the company itself is relatively new, the people behind it are industry experts and have worked on countless projects over the last decade. They are part of the GB Electronics (GBE) group, which employs over 50 staff across 3 different sites: a rapidly growing technology company.
