Our client, a reputable Engineering company in Barnstaple, has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Buyer/Planner to join their team. This is a long term temporary role.

The Role

Based in Barnstaple, this is a full-time, site-based role, working a 39-hour week Monday to Friday.

The role of the Buyer/Planner is to fully satisfy customer demand and service across all Value Streams and ensure Purchase Orders are in place for finished goods, components and raw materials, to be received in time or suitably stocked so that works orders and sales orders are fulfilled to customer requirements. The Buyer/Planner will focus on placing orders, communications and chasing vendors to keep late backlog to a minimum, as well as necessary expediting activities.

Other duties will include:

Supporting planning & purchasing business activities for other departments as well as assisting coordination of orders through European Distribution Centre (EDC).
General duties of answering business enquires and dealing with day to day administration requirements including invoice queries.
Support all sourcing activities including the timely placing of Purchase orders using ERP/MRP planning methods and manage inventory and safety stock levels, with a view to maximising service performance with most effective use of capital.
Drive and support continuous improvement improving service, and cost across the instrumentation group. Ensuring all purchase orders raised reflect demand and forecasted requirements against agreed stock levels and order quantities using Lean Plan for every part (PFEP) techniques.
Build supplier relationships, including, internal sales, customer service, operations and supply chain department interactions.
Review customer order book and expedite supplier purchase orders to ensure Sales order shipped on time.
Track supplier’s delivery performance and communicate late deliveries based on business risk and impact to customer shipments.
Review supplier order acknowledgements for accuracy and action as necessary and monitor outstanding deliveries against delivery date, expediting with suppliers when required and communicating all potential issues to internal customers/stakeholders.
About You

You will have:

Excellent organisation skills to support structured working
A good skill set to evaluate data using Excel and pivot charts is useful to identify key areas to work on to assist improvements of supplier performance.
Effective negotiation skills to support gaining the best dates from vendors during expediting
Problem solving capabilities and experience
A high level of computer literacy, including Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, together with good verbal and written communication.
