Role Summary

We are recruiting for an Occupational Health Screening Nurse to join our team, based on a prestigious client site in Peterborough. As a Screening Nurse, you will focus on carrying out health surveillance and fitness for task assessments, including audiometry, spirometry, forklift, working at heights and confined space medicals. You will also act as first responder for any incidents on the site, providing routine first aid and deciding on actions to be taken if necessary.

The Occupational Health Screening Nurse will be responsible for delivering and maintaining the highest standards of health screening, surveillance, and fitness for task assessments in line with Optima Health’s standards and values, ensuring the client’s expectations are delivered.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct a range of health assessments, pre-employment assessments, specific health surveillance programmes, and reporting on the outcomes.
• Providing general advice on employee health and wellbeing.
• Supporting with first aid and acting as first responder to any incidents on-site.
• General screening nurse duties – performing audiometry/vision/lung function tests, blood pressure/height and weight.
• Maintaining and securing confidential medical records and systems in accordance with statutory requirements.
• Monitoring and maintaining consistency of professional standards, taking appropriate action if standards are not met.
• Abiding by the legal requirements and statutory rules relating to practice and record and maintain periodic professional registration with RCN & NMC.
• Completing all mandatory training modules as specified by Optima Health.
• Adhere to Optima’s Customer charter at all times.
• Making timely and appropriate recommendations and reports where required to assist with delivering service in line with KPI’s.
• Listen sensitively, support employees and deal with management where required. • Making well informed decisions, producing advice and recommendations that are timely, meaningful and evidence based.

Experience, skills and knowledge required for the role

You will need to be an NMC Registered General Nurse, ideally with prior experience in a Screening Nurse role. A background in A&E/emergency nursing, or experience in a manufacturing environment, would be highly beneficial for this role. Experience in occupational health or health surveillance is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided. This is a fully site-based role, applicants will need to be based in Peterborough or happy to commute to Peterborough on a full-time basis.
